I usually install games on my hard drive to keep the DVD player noise at a more reasonable level. Now I'm wondering if it's possible to somehow make the Xbox 360 an external hard drive or NAS install my games to that disk and play them from here just as I do with the standard hard drive today.

Anyone who knows?

I don't believe the Xbox 360 supports any other model of hard drive other than the Microsoft branded hard drives. I have seen people use non-Microsoft hard drives that work with the 360, though they were specifically the same model number and same space.
