Hi all,

I recently got an Epox 8rda3+ nforce2 ultra400 MB. I've been having problems with stability (freezing in Unreal Tournament2003, and postal) and random freezing when i play mp3s through media player. On the board i noticed the extra 4pin power connector. I connected it as well as the regular ATX20-pin connector and the system starts fine. Could it be that this 4pin connector is causing my stability problems? Do you recommend it be connected for an AMD cpu?

BTW, i haven't yet tested the RAM and video card to see if they are causing the problems. I will shortly though. My RAM is Kingmax pc3200 and gfx card is Sparkle Geforce FX 5600.

Cheers...

The 4 pin additional connector is needed. It is not the cause of your problem.

Please add additional information on your system:
1) Power supply - Watts & brand
2) All devices being used.
a) graphics card
b) number of case fans
c) Hard Disks
d) amount and type of memory
e) cpu
f) etc. etc.
This will help people determine a more likely source of the problem.

What is the temperature of your CPU and Mobo after a "crash"?

WAG: There is some color coding for the memory slots, are you following the order in filling the slots?

I've put the memory in slots 1 & 3 to enable Dual DDR.

I can't see anything obvious. I guess you should proceed with your memory tests and GPU test.

Wait for some more input. I'm sure some people will come along.

Sorry for the lateness of this reply...

I performed my tests with different memory and RAM. I still got the same freezing issues (although with the different graphics card the freezing wasn't quite as frequent).

I then concluded it was a motherboard issue and took it back to the supplier. They tested it and claimed that its my install of windowsXP as they used a fresh install on a different harddrive and they had no freezing issues at all. I asked them if they used a SATA hard-drive and they hadn't. They are retesting it with an SATA drive today and they are going to let me know.

did you upgrade an existing PC, that already had windows on it? if so, then the shop may be right. A clean install of an OS on new hardware is always preferable.

The end is nigh.. (For this post at least)

Nup, it was a brand new pc with a brand new install of WinXP.

Well, it appears there actually was a fault with the motherboard. What it was i don't know, but the guy replaced it with a new board of the same model and everything appears sweet at the minute. Thanks everyone for you input....
