I deleted a file and emptied the trash bin. Is there any way I can retrieve it?

Hi

So long as the file(s) haven't been overwritten, you 'may' be able to
recover it/them
with a 3rd party 'undelete' program:

http://www.executive.com/undelete/undelete.asp
