Biggins Bonnet

Do people overlook this item? I recently upgraded one to a Shako for
my Zealot. The 30% Enhanced Damage is very nice. This looks like a
good candidate to insert my 40% Enhanced Damage jewel I found a while
ago.

If you just hire a normal Act 2 merc and don't have multiple CD Keys to
bring your Enchantress in, Biggins Bonnet is a very good choice to
equip him with, maybe along with that unique Bardiche that has 100%
Enhanced Damage.

Hi

Yeah ed jewels will give more damage if they r in the weapon and than
in armor so a nice jewel like 40% would be better in a nice weapon.
biggins is VERY nice twink hat but it has no leech and no resists so I
dont use it much past act3 normal even in mercs if it on a merc they
get wormskull at 21 and if on melee char they might keep it on a lil
longer but def not past 27 they get lore then a vampiregaze when they r
bigger.

I did put a 20 poison damage jewel in 1 of my biggins and I think that
works REAL nice. That and hasuarus set means by level 3 ANY char can
finish act 1 easy it even help caster characters cuz it lets them get
away with meleeing early while they buidling up their magic skills

Playing paladins constantly has taught me one thing-the DR and life on a
Harly or the DR and leech on a Vamp Gaze is far more useful than 30% ED from
Biggins, and I won't even get into the superiority of a Crown of Ages.
Biggins is a good twink hat, but end game there are better choices.

And 40% ED jewels are much more beneficial in weapons than they are in
armor. If you have tons of them laying around, feel free(but then again, if
you have tons of them laying around, you'd be better off getting a 3 socket
hat and sticking 3 of them in it for 120% ED), otherwise, save it for a nice
weapon.

Personally, I'd rather give my low level act 2 mercs an Honor weapon over
the bardiche.

My act 2 has a biggin with 40 EDand it works great... but I find that I like
delirium better just because of the confuse skill.

Isn't there something about ED jewels not working too well when they're in
armor as opposed to weapon? You should look into this before wasting your
rune m8. I'm sure someone here can tell me if I remember correctly....

Crown of Ages ... I have not found a good use for it yet. The 174
strength requirement seems to be too steep. Being in the TC87, it
surely looks a terrible waste to insert a -15% requirmenet jewel in it.
Suppose I don't use Enigma (that boosts strength significantly), do
you believe it is worth investing that many strength to be able to wear
this helm? Is it also worth burning 2 Ber runes, or whichever rune it
is, for the DR?

For a paladin, a lot of mine get strength that high or fairly close anyways,
at least with the rest of their gear on. Now, I wouldn't use it for a
hammerdin, ranger, or FoH pally, but for a meleer 174 isn't totally beyong
the realm for me.

Depends on the rest of your setup, really. Most likely, I'd go BerBer, but
if I found a really nice rare ring I might go Ber/Cham so I wouldn't need a
Ravenfrost.

What is the required level of an elite-upgraded biggins?

If my information is correct, then shako minimum level is 43 + double
upgrade from normal to elite version (5+7) = level 55 ?

That sounds about right, it was either level 54 or 55. Sorry, I
already muled the hat. If you need to know exactly I will look it up
for you.

The answer to your quesion is Yes, most people overlook the item. It happens
to be one of my favorite items, and part of the set I outfit all starting
chars with. Add in blood fist gloves, an Angelic set with a second ring and
a pair of hotspur boots, and you have a char at level 12 that can wander
around impervious in act 4 :)
