Hello!!

I have tried to read every page available on the Verizon website and
have had numerous conversations with different departments within
Verizon and have received numerous answers so I am so confused. I am
trying to figure out how plan minutes are calculated when traveling
across the country.

I have the Americhoice plan and also pay for IN-Network and my local
area is the Houston, Texas vicinity. I am on a family plan with shared
minutes with 4 other phones.

I would like to know how minutes are counted when my phone is on an
"Extended Network". Do nights and weekend minutes still count as free?
Are my family plan minutes or in-network minutes calls still free or
do they deduct from our regular minutes?

Also, I have a Motorola C343 and when I am on an "Extended Network"
the phone has a flashing triangle (if this information helps). So far
I have never seen it go into roam within any states I am in (at least
I think, what does the phone display when it is roaming?)

Extended Network areas you still receive your free N/W's. In-network
minutes aren't available because you aren't in the network. Calls between
your phones come out of your regular minute allowance.

If its roaming, the banner will read "Roaming" and the triangle roaming
indicator will be solid instead of flashing.

Airtime usage is out of your monthly allotment and you don't pay long-
distance or roaming fees. I *believe* this means N&W minutes are still free
but I'd check wtih VZW... it would mean that they're paying another carrier
per-minute for airtime on which you aren't paying roaming, and they aren't
even dinging you for minutes coming out of your monthly bucket.

If I recall correctly, a call to another VZW phone is only In-Network
if you are on one of Verizon's own cellular systems, so In-Network doesn't
apply to your phone if you're on the Extended Network.

That's possible. On the West Coast, the East Coast, and throughout the
Midwest and much of the South, Verizon runs their own networks. Driving
through the Plains States last year, I ended up on Extended much of the time.
But there are plenty of areas where you WILL be in native Verizon coverage.

My house is in an Extended Network area. When you're in one of these, that
means you're using a different carrier's towers other than Verizon, but
Verizon has cut a deal with that carrier to make it cost effective enough
for them to provide you with coverage using your regular plan's package
minutes. If your phone shows a flashing roam indicator, that means your peak
airtime minutes and your free night and weekend minutes are available.
However, you're "In-Network" or mobile-to-mobile, or whatevery want to call
that option is not available. The "in-network" freebie minutes only are
available when you're on one of Verizon's own towers (no roam indicator at
all).

Keep in mind that if you get a solid roam indicator that is not blinking,
then you aren't on the America's Choice coverage at all, so you're paying by
the minute for roaming charges regardless of what time it is or who you are
calling.

AND the recipient must also be on Verizon's network to get M2M minutes. In
other words, both the caller and the callee must be on Verizon's network.

I think this depends on your plan. In California, In-Network for local
plans specify that both phones must be both on a VZW system and in the
"Local In-Network" area for In-Network to apply. But the America's Choice
version of In-Network says that if you are in the national In-Network area
(essentially, any native VZW system), then outgoing calls to other VZW
phones, and incoming calls where the system can identify the caller as
a VZW phone (e.g., Caller-ID), are billed as In-Network on that phone,
regardless of what system the other phone is on. The other phone will
be billed based on where it is. That is why on my bill, there is a
distinct code for "In-Network call" and "billed to In-Network minutes".
My SingleRateNational phone, which does not have In-Network minutes,
nonetheless shows relevant calls as "In-Network", even though those
calls come out of my regular bucket of minutes. My America's Choice
phones show both codes on such calls.
