After their surprise victory over France, I jokingly exclaimed Senegal would take it all.
It's not so much of a joke now.
Vegas had them at 33:1 before yesterday.

ah, there's Jake. jake, I need ur help- I'm having an issue w/ making a metal texture and raytracing. I've tried to find a tutorial, but to no avail. How would u suggest I make a gold/brass texture in max?

My frog asked me for a straw...dunno what happened his ass all over the place

Reply to Flamethrower205

First, skip/don´t use the "Metal shader", it´s crappy.

I usually use the "Blinn Shader" for metal surfaces.
In the "Diffuse slot", add a dark color (almost black, with a slight tint of yellow)
The specular value has to be very high (around 300-400, play around till you are satisfied)
The glossiness value should be, say 40-60...

Use a "masked" falloff material in the reflection slot together with a raytrace material, this way you get more reflections along the sides of the object which makes it look more realistic.

Finally, you need to put some objects in your scene so your reflective object has something to reflect! (oh, really!?)

Use a skymap or something similar in the environment slot together with some other objects and you should get some nice results!

As for values in the raytrace material you have to use trial & error...

Thanks, finally they key to metal:) Did u go somewhere to learn all this stuff, or is it from years of experience?

My frog asked me for a straw...dunno what happened his ass all over the place

Reply to Flamethrower205

Hmm, I played around with a bunch of stuff, and it seems though that the color looks more vibrant w/o the falloff. It's useful on darker metals though.

My frog asked me for a straw...dunno what happened his ass all over the place

Reply to Flamethrower205

What kind of falloff type did you use?

I used "Towards/Away", you can also try "Perpendicular/Paralell".

Don´t forget to use "Attenuation" with the Raytrace material.

I just made a scene with 3 spheres in a room (classic), the walls have "muted" colors and the spheres are highly reflective, for me...it works.

I used this order:

Mask in reflection slot.

In the Mask/Map slot I put the raytrace material.
In the Mask/Mask slot I put the falloff material.

I see what you mean with the colors, it´s rather dark...it´s perhaps more suitable for "standard metal things".

Another thing you could try is to put a bitmap directly into the reflection slot.
For example a skymap displaying a sunset, add lots of blur to the map and a noise material in the bumpmapslot with a value of 10-15...you can also try to "stretch" the bitmap horizontally or vertically for a good effect.
This method is good to use if you want fast renderings and you don´t have to reflect the environment.

Senegal deserves it-African athletic ability and pushy French attitude, all wrapped up into one small country. As for Sweden, well, my viking ancestors are rolling in their graves over the notion that we would even play such a sport!

Reply to Crashman

Old people in sweden are generally more traditional than young ones, I guess this is true in other countries as well, how old is this person who wrote the article?

I myself am not a man that cares especially about traditions, I hardly even "celebrate" christmas...We don´t even get the day off when it is our national day, shame you could say...
Or it might be a good thing, why try to make people more "nationalistic" and aware of national borderlines instead of making them see the world without borders?

As for being individualistic I have to disagree strongly, almost all people I know or have met are very aware of themselves and have a worldview that differs from the older generation, it´s a view that is more openminded and that
almost always welcomes new things, be it religion, politics or various trends.
People are trying to develop skills or talents that makes them stand out, they´re doing almost everything just to avoid being put into a certain "category" of people.

The younger people are, the more "aware" of themselves they seem to be.
When I was 11 I was hardly aware or cared of the problems around the world, I was not interested in politics or in being individualistic, I just enjoyed being with my family and playing with my "Transformers".
Todays kids are "forced" to grow up more quickly and learn the "ways of life" at a younger stage and they are more aware of themselves as being a unique person, at least more than I was!

As for being competetive, there´s not much of that in sweden except a "chosen few" that aim for that top position at a big company or something.
Most people in Sweden are middle class and content with their lifes as it is, not needing to be competetive as there is no such environment here.
Instead we´re paying skyhigh taxes that in turns grants all citizens "free" healthcare and education, so there is really no need to earn that extra $$$.

By a Sweedish person for sweedish people, Hmmm. Here are some tips written by me for other people to learn how to do business with me.
1. my credit is always good, never question it
2. if you want some special offers then leave me with a large ammount of cash and if i see any i'll forward you the goods.
3. never ask for a refund as the sight of me ROFLMAO offten offends.
4. you can improve your chance of profitability by joining my lottery, just give me money and i'll let you know if you win.
5. none of the above should in anyway be interperated as being written by a biased person who only has the intent of getting me a better deal.

Hmm... I used to know a funny list of rules called: The teacher rules. Lets see what I remember:
1. The teacher is always right.
2. When a pupil has right rule 1 is active immediatly.
3. The teacher stays the teacher even in his ¿swimmingware¿.

OK, well, in America getting drunk in public is like a sport, people go to parties just to watch the drunks duke it out. The workforce emulates that attitude in many ways, lots of people battling it out, every else watching. Our top companies work like that too, even AMD and Intel battled it out with transmeta watching. Kellogs and General Mills battle it out, Quaker cereals watches. Pepsi and Coke battle it out, 7-up (makers of RC Cola) watches. The fight is part of an American Tradition, similar to the Nordic battles for controll of the Nothern Seas. Sweden ducked out of that hundreds of years ago, while they were still in the lead, now their just another nice quiet European country. People cooperate. It's nice, but definately not traditional.
