I have a Asus A7N8X. Its not the PCB 2.0. I was wondering whats the fastest proceesor it can support? Can it handle the 3200+? Or only up to the 3000+?

Athlon XP 3000+(333 MHZ FSB)(Model 10) 1.04 since=1002 Check PCB and BIOS versions before flashing BIOS!
Athlon XP 3200+(400 MHz FSB)(Model 10) 1.04 since=1004 Check PCB and BIOS versions

If your Bios is not uptodate (1004) you will have to flash it for XP3200+ support

Be careful on the bios page and do not mix up the bios for the different PCB revisions (but you seem aware of this

You have to note that even after the BIOS update, it doesn't means that it's 100% guaranteed you can run 400FSB on pre-2.0 A7N8X because if the northbridge stepping is A2, the chipset voltage is unable to run anything above 185MHz (i.e. 370FSB). If it is the case, I think Asus may exchange your mobo with a 2.0 one but I'm not very sure.

If I agree with you... will you shut up?

well if you have a unlocked amd cpu...why don't you drop the muliplyer very low (like 8x) and try to run a 400mhz fsb...even if you have pc2700 you should be able to reach 400mhz at shitty timmings...

if you have pc2100 disregaurd the post...

If i put my k6 in a Ferrari it would be faster than your your pentium 4 or Athlon XP

No matter what rev. you have, there is a bios upgrade for it. If Asus has a bios to enable any chip to run on any board, this is a guarantee. If it does not work, Asus will make it work, or give you a board that will.

Hold on dude, I know you've probably seen this a million times before, but just get an AthlonXP 2500+ your board can easily set that to run as fast if not faster than a xp3200+.

At the moment I think the xp3200+ is about 5 times the price of the 2500+.

What do other people think?

if ya wana overclock i agree go for the 2500...

If not then save a little money and go for the 200mhz (400ddr) version of the 3000+ is is only a few mhz slower than the 3200 (66mhz i beleive) and it is quite a bit cheeper...

I have better news for you. I have a 1.2 revision of the board, I am running 1700+ @ 198fsb (finally stable after what seems like an eternity). Here are the specs:

2.18 GHz 1.725 VCore
11*198 = 2180
PC2700 (ddr333) Corsair VALUE SELECT 2 * 512 (timings 6, 2, 2, cl2.5) 2.8 VDimm

I was able to run that with a small 40mm fan attached to the north bridge, but since then I have lapped the heatsink and use AS2, but the fan back on but still crashes in a game @ 200.

In short, even though I have a rev 1.2 board, I have managed to take it to 198 and it is running sweetly, not a single crash for a week! I am very happy.

It'd be interesting to see how you got on. Let us know.

Question for Endyen though, is there anyway I'll be able to squeeze a rev 2 out of ASUS?

What do you mean they guarantee 200 fsb, sorry if I've misquoted you, just wondering what you mean with regards to the guarantee that you mentioned.
