Hey,

I want to build a 2.4C Ghz system with the ASUS P4P800 motherboard. I want to overclock it a little. I know that I'll need PC3200 or better RAM and am looking to get 512mb worth.

Should I get PC3200 or higher - 3500 or 3700? ... considering that I'll want to overclock. I'm looking to spend around $150 on the RAM. Which brand or model is the most stable with the P4P800? I've read about problems with the Corsair Twinx module, what about brands like GeIL or Kingston?

Thanks!

Regardless of the problems you've heard about, the TwinX 3200LL is the most capable of running low latencies.

Generally "faster" modules have much larger SPD latency values and can't be sped up by much. But they do support high clock speeds.

The 2.4C will usually run at 3.0GHz/250MHz bus, but you have two choices, either use PC4000 (with horrible latencies) or the 5:4 memory divider (with lost memory bandwidth).

Should I really worry about which brand of memory I get? On the ASUS P4P800 website, only a handful of memory modules are listed as 'qualified' and most seem to be out of date.

I'd also like to keep the cost down and don't want to pay extra for premium memory when I don't really need it.

How is the GEIL 512MB(2x256MB) PC-3500 (433MHz) Dual DDR RAM, 6 Layer Lower Noise PCB Copper Heat Spreader, Dual Channel SPD Enhanced Model# GL5123500DC

Attractive price of $123 at newegg.

Thanks!

fact of the matter is that asus is lazy...they don't have the time to test every single dimm manufacturer...

Geil makes pretty good ram for the money IMO...they are not a bad choice...although kingston and corsair do make more overclockable ram with better timmings...

If i put my k6 in a Ferrari it would be faster than your your pentium 4 or Athlon XP :tongue:

Also, what is the deal with the P4P800 only supporting video cards that take 1.5V? Should I be concerned about that? (I have no idea what video cards currently run on).

I'm planning to use my ATI Radeon 64mb which is AGP 2.0 compliant. Would it work with this motherboard?

Thanks again!

yup it should work...

agp 1.0 (1x/2x) ---> 3.3 volts
agp 2.0 (4x) ---> 1.5v
agp 3.0 (8x)---> 0.8v
