Evening. I didn't find a technical support forum on steam so i thought i'd might aswell post it here.

Ever since installing my Graphics card (ASUS HD 4850 1gb), left 4 dead has been freezing my computer which the only way to get out of is by manually shutting the PC down. I have the latest drivers for pretty much every bit of hardware.

The game freezes my PC at about 45 minutes into any campaign. The card is NOT overheating as i checked the temperature frequently whilst playing l4d. Every setting is maxed out & Multi core rendering and v sync are switched Off.

This doesn't happen to any of my other games but L4D. When the game freezes, My monitor's light turns from green to orange and my keyboard lights switch off. It's almost like they are undetected. My mouse light however remains on.

If you would like my to submit any technical info, please tell me how to and i will. And if so, the program to get this info.

Thanks in advance

My post above seems to be invisible to me, perhaps it was too long as i added a truck load of text from the specifications of my system.

No. I don't know what that is let alone how to fiddle with it. :)

It happened again, but this time it was a Blue screen of death.

After restarting, windows identified the problem;

"Address a problem with ATI Graphics Driver
ATI Graphics Driver has stopped working properly.

A driver update, if available, might prevent this problem from recurring."

Since i have catalyst suite 9.9, my only option is to use earlier drivers. can anyone please give me a stable version #?

thanks

Windows vista 32bit Home edition.

Oh and mybad about the 9.9 drivers, i just realised ATI released a more recent version 9.10 which i've installed. If the problem persists i will keep the messages coming with more info. Sorry about the strand of replies and such, i would edit my posts but unfortunately i cannot yet.

Seems to be working fine, let's hope it doesn't suddenly turn. Thanks for the help oh and one more question :)

I keep seeing these greying rectangles on walls and crates in team fortress 2 & l4d, They have been there since i can remember installing my GPU. They flicker constantly, shimmering over objects like grass etc. Is there something wrong with my card? I haven't overclocked anything but the fan speed which is at 75% (default 50%)

Hey sorry OvrClkr i haven't replied in a while. Been busy and haven't played l4d for it even to cross my mind. Once i started playing l4d2 demo with the 9.7 and 9.8 drivers, im still getting the problem. but in l4d2, my PC locks up completely again even faster.

With both the .7/.8 drivers, i'm still getting artifacts :(

I used to play l4d with my old integrated graphics chip although crazy laggy, it never crashed once. I'l see if i can delete all of the drivers associated with the chipset now

Thanks mate, i've installed now and i have it open. Do you want me to analyse them and or clean them all? or just the ATI / nvidia drivers
