Routers in wireless mode can be effected by several things. Firstly you say the router is on the floor below your pc - are the floors wood or concrete ? Concrete has steel running throught them to reinforce the structure. Also having the router close to a wall is known to cause similar issues, try moving away from the wall.

Finally - make sure you router is not close to a wireless phone (not a mobile) as routers and some digital hands free phones transmit on the same channel - and often cause interference with net connections.

If all else fails I would try (if its available) using networking via powersockets... works very well and has little or no interference

I used to have to game wireless. It was horrid. I was in an apartment and only in the next room over from the router and I still would get ping spikes that would get me kicked. I share your pain man.

I tried boosting antennas, and DIY reflectors but nothing seemed to help. Maybe in your case you can get one of these reflectors to help?
