don't kill me - phone recommendations for the wife and I

Apologies in advance but I have a slight variation of this age old
question. My wife is eligible for an upgrade now and I'll be eligible
in 2 months.

First, my wife. Her birthday is 8/22 and I want to upgrade her phone
for a birthday gift. She constantly complains about her phone - an
old very basic LG. I think it's fine, but she likes the bells and
whistles. Games and possibly a camera are the only sort of optional
features she'd make use of though. Internet not important. Plus she
uses the phone an awful lot. I don't need to buy it until her
birthday, so if there's anything coming out, I can wait.

I have the LG 4400. It's fine and dandy except I really cannot stand
not having a constant notification when there are messages. I've been
wanting to get rid of this phone almost since day 1 for that reason.
I don't care about analog and don't care about the internet. Willing
to spend up to $200 or so on each phone. Thanks.
