Nah, not really. I'm still loyal, but right now I couldn't be any more pis*ed off! After so long, I decided to reinstall half life and half life 2. Everything is all good and well for number 1, but I lost the god damn key for half life 2!!! God DAMN IT!
What difference would it make to valve huh? Even if I proved to them I have the disc... No key = No game.
Another reason why PC gaming sucks. But for some strange reason, I stay loyal too it funny eh?
ME TOO.
I consider to by Xbox.

Get a sharpie and write your key directly onto your disc face. To be conservative, make a spreadsheet and save it there too. Screw trying to save the box and manuals.
This makes no sense. You've installed HL2 before, correct? Then your key is linked to your Steam account, and you can install any time you want.
Now if you've forgotten your Steam account details, that's another issue.
By the time most of us reach adulthood, we've determined whether we're forgetful or not, and learn to write those things down which we're prone to forgetting.

At least your PC has backwards compatibility to even be able to play most of those games. I just bought a 360 and I'm a little pissed that just about none of the Xbox games I have (which came out about the same time as HL and HL2) work on it.

I was under the impression that they were all compatible, this is why i can't decide on a system for me, my son has the suck ass Wii, i want the xbox 360 because of xbl and backwards compatibility, and i want the ps3 because it's has blue ray, and well, it's sony, now your telling me it doesn't work, that sucks.
Shouldn't you be able to reinstall it via Steam? You'd have to download it, but I don't remember having to enter a key when I've done this.
What huh?... I can't remember having to have steam to play this game? I just poped it in and installed it without steam. (I'm talking about the actuall CD itself, not a downloaded steam version.)
I can't find the box for it, so I don't have the serial for it. Blah.
If it's a legitimate copy of Half-Life 2, you need Steam installed to run it. I would suggest that either you've forgotten you ever installed Steam, or it's a pirated copy.
If it's the former, you can recover your details. Go to www.steampowered.com for information. If it's the latter, then I can't help you. Nor would I.

Why thank you old chap (kidding) I never actually TRIED to install it, I just assumed that it never had a serial because I lost the original case (seen as HL1 had a serial) I thought I wouldn't be able to install it.
So are you telling me this game was a no serial game? I rememberd it differently. I'm gonna go try it now. Thanks!
It does have a serial, to be used the first time you install a boxed retail copy. However, after that it doesn't matter if you lose the box, the manual, or the disc itself. You log into your Steam account (which you had to create when you first installed the game), and go to "My games". You right-click on Half-Life 2, and select "Install". It will then download the entire game and automatically install it.

They each have some backwards compatibility (ie some games work others don't) so you might want to do some research on any system you get before buying. But with consoles, from generation to generation you never know what you can expect as far as being able to play last generations games. Furthermore if you're not a fanboy of one platform but also can't afford to buy every console of every generation you may get stuck with a heap of unusable games if you decide to buy Sony one generation but Microsoft the next (i.e. A PS2 owner who switches to the 360 is SOL). It's just a concern that PC gamers do not have to worry about. There is no compromise between getting newer better hardware and being able to play all your old favorites.
