Why is my Oblivion game saying that Windows has a problem and needs to shut down

I was Installing The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion game of the year edition when after I installed it,i tried to play it and a little black window appeared on the top left of my screen and it said,"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."How do i play?I have Windows Vista. ![:fou:]( ":fou:")

If I recall (it was a while ago), I had a somewhat similar problem with xp and the goty edition. Not sure if this will help but.... the game originally wanted to open in a res like 800x600 and I had problems with it. Try, just for fun to set your monitor at 800x600 and then try to open the game again. Hope it helps.
