Hi, im wondering if this is normal for my kind of pc. Im running Vista 32 bit with an AMD Phenom IIx4 940@3.7 ghz, Ati 3870 crossfire, 8gb ddr2 1066, brand new 32mb cache 7200rpm 640gb hard drive, and a brand new gigabyte 790x motherboard. When playing oblivion i get huge amounts of stuttering when any kind of action starts, or i see 1 or 2 npcs. with 3 npcs, FPS drops to about 15. Same performance when enabling or disabling crossfire(i know that its working because it shows the crossfire logo on the top right of the screen. I set all settings to max, i get the same performance with Bloom with max AA as i would get with HDR only. Downclocking to the stock 3.0 ghz does nothing to the framerate. Anyone have any suggestions? I feel as i have wasted too much money on my pc to get 15 fps.. All my component temperatures are pretty low also.
P.s: Defragmenting does nothing to improve fps!
P.s.s: Reinstalling game does nothign to improve fps!
P.s.s.s: Reinstalling VISTA 32 OR vista 64 does nothing to improve fps!
Any help at all or comments will probably help me :[
(i have also tried using only 2gb of ram and 4gb, does nothing :[ )
Its either your cpu, which I doubt, or somehow you gfx ram is being used up, and its going to your HDD thru system ram.
One thing tho, having npcs slowing the game does point towards cpu.
Whats your res? This one is perplexing

Get used to it. I recently started playing it again and found that probably due to too much messing with the INI file that it can slow down alot. Might have to reset everything to defaults and start again.
Also, crossfire does not appear to be working for me. It used to be the best game for crossfire support on my X1900's but doesn't appear to work right now, unfortunately I need to keep A.I catalyst enabled for forcing AA and AF.
You may wish to pop over to tweakguides and see if their are any hints but really, this is oblivion, always has been a bit odd but that is what you get when it is a console port lest we forget.
------------------------------I'm a git, deal with it.
try running 3dmark06 and see how the results of that compare to others with similar systems (you get the opportunity to compare results straight after 3dmark06 completes)
