boot problems

i have a new computer...and everything is just fine except for this.. I have trouble booting it up..when i hit the power button the computer light goes on and it seems to be booting just fine but nothing appears on the monitor...i have to hit the reset button to get the monitor to work..i have a nec multisync 70 and its about a year old..
is it a monitor problem? I took it in to the guy that built it for me and he says it works just fine for him..it might be my monitor...what do you all think?

First thing. What indication do you get from the monitor?

Usually a monitor will have an orange LED (flashing or constant) in standby mode or green (full on).

It's possible the output from the video card is dodgy and the monitor will not sync to the incoming signal. There may be a bad connection on a video card component which is ok after warming up (hence it works after resetting).

Try booting the computer, letting it run for a few minutes with the monitor not displaying anything.

Note whether the monitor is in standby or on mode (if you can).

Then switch the monitor off (completely off, pull the mains lead out if you have to) then back on after a second or two.

Let me know what, if anything, happens.

When i first got your post i shut down the computer waiting a few minutes then turned it on. Everything worked just fine. The computer booted and the monitor turned on without a problem. So I tried it again this morning and this is what happened:
I tried turning on the monitor first before turning on the cpu because this seemed to help in the past.
I heard the beep as it started to boot and the HD drive went on. Also the floppy drive light went on and no picture so i just waited to see if i could hear the windows sound. I never did instead the floppy light went back on as if it was looking for something and shut itself back down. I restarted it and it booted to windows in safe mode. When i restarted it again it booted into windows without a problem. During this whole thing the green light on the monitor is on which is the normal.

I have the same problem. Always switch the monitor on first, then switch on the computer. This works for me. Try it! Not sure why I can't switch on the computer first though.
