Alright, I'm running windows 2000 with all updates, service packs, etc. Everythings just peachy so I start messing around with wintweakui to change some settings to better suit myself, ie; faster menus, lots of different paranoia things etc...Well everythings working great.

I'm not the only one who uses this computer (its in my home though) So for sake of ease I'm usually logged in as administrator.

Problem: There is an option in tweekui to "hide" or maybe "remove" (can't remember) control pannel from the start menu (or so i thought), after i clicked it...BY BY CONTROL PANNEL. not just from start menu, from everywhere. Using a shortcut i created from another login i was able to view the control pannel, but all options are "locked" clicking on say add/remove hardware gets this message..."this operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer, please contact sys admin"...well hey that's me and i'm logged in...not helping!!!

I tried to fix the problem by undoing it under a different login, no help. Tried to reg edit, but didn't really know what to look for (to get beck the control pannel). uninstalled tweakui, didn't help (its gone, but the problem ain't). tried to reinstall program, but get the restrictions error. rebooted to last known good configuration...didn't help.

Please don't tell me i'm sol :(. God i don't want to reinstall windows and 100gigs of files again...I currently have full access to anything on the computer, i just can't access the control pannel, i'm sure its just a few simple registry edits, anyone know?

Thanks for reading, and thanks in advanced for any help!

Try creating a new account and give it admin rights. Just your account may have been hosed. If making a new account fixs it you can copy the working profile to your profile.
If that doesn't do it then I'm afraid you are out of luck. You can save yourself some headache though. If you just do a reinstall of win2k w/o formatting it will just revert all of your system files to the way they were. You will have to reinstall service packs and windows updates but other apps likely won't need to be reinstalled.

Log in as a user other than the one you want to copy to or from.
-Right click on mycomputer and go to propterties
-go to Profiles tab
-select the user profiles you want to copy and hit copy to
-hit browse and browse to and select the profile you are copying to in documents and settings
-set the permitted to use to the user who you are copying the profile to
-hit ok

it didn't copy the entire profile. (ie didn't work i guess) possibly because of resitrctions. I'm going to do a complete reinstall and setup my raid again (one drive went south 1/2 a year ago, finally got around to rma'ing it, just been sitting there ever sence.

When in doubt, reinstall. *that* should truly be Microsofts slogan! (even though this one time problem was actualy my fault :)
