The 855GM chipset from Intel, found in all Centrino notebooks, features what Intel calls "Intel® Extreme Graphics 2 technology". Do you know to which graphics card the performance of this chipset is equal to? Maybe GeForce4 MX 440 or am I too optimistic?

i would say that or even less...

unforunatly...intel has not made the most powerful intigrated graphics in the past...

I would definitly recomend one of the chipsets with the 9000 or 9600...or whatever nvidia has out...

- <A HREF="http://www.vr-zone.com/reviews/Intel/865/page4.htm" target="_new">Intel Extreme Graphics 2 VS. NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX440-8x</A>.

- It is recommendable for corporate desktops but not for 3D gaming environments.

Yeah, it's pretty sad. VR-Zone says it's "due to the absence of Hardware T&L engine."

They must be kidding! I was thinking of buying a new laptop, and I was really fascinated by the idea of buying an ultra-thin, ultra-light, ultra-quiet, no heat centrino notebook with the built-in graphics. I was ok to settle for little performance when it comes to graphics since I don't intend to use it for gaming, but this is way too low. I think my only option should be nothing less than a Radeon 9000 Pro.

It's an onboard, updated version of the ancient i740 graphics chip, which was considerably slower than even the Riva 128ZX. In case you don't know what the 128ZX was, it was the card that preceeded the TNT, which preceeded the TNT2, which preceeded the GeForce, which preceeded the GeForce2...

In other words it's only competative with cards 5 years old!
