i have a old system 98 that I use for my job, I got a new system with XP on
it. How do I get the info from the old system to the new system?
I have the room to install the hdd onto the new system.
how do i get the data into the new system, so I can remove the old hdd?

There are lots of ways to do it, and the way you suggest--moving
the old drive to the new system--is an excellent one.

Just copy the data. It's no different copying from one drive to
another than it is copying from one folder to another.
