The OPs' question was how to restore the validity of a certificate, if
he/she didn't have one then they would not need to restore the validity
od said certificate, thus one could conclude that the OP has a
certificate that is no longer vaid. Ne pas?

From the article:

"It is assumed that the reader knows what a digital certificate is."

From the OP's message, not having a certificate is what is stopping
him/her.
