Hi all,
I just downloaded the latest ATMA version from diabloii.net and gave it
a test run with my level 2 sorceress equipped with Short Staff and
Leather Gloves.
I hear (or see) that people store their items on .d2x files. Is there
an advantage to this as opposed to .d2i? The reason I'm asking is
because with .d2x, the items are not classified upon Sets, Uniques,
Rares, etc, they are just categorized under the different item type.
Whereas with .d2i, I can create folders categorizing the above.
What is Auto-Gather in ATMA? I clicked it and nothing happens besides
bringing my .d2x file to the foreground. The Readme does not mention
anything about this. Tenshi must have presumed everything is common
sense.
As far as items are concerned, SP is exactly the same as online Ladder
play minus the new runewords, right?

Help my memory: .d2i is as with Jamella, one item per file, right?
One advantage of .d2x is that it is much less work. No need to edit
the file name for uniqification (if you have two "small charm of
vitae" or such), no need to deal with different directories for
different categories.
>The reason I'm asking is

True. But if you want that, you could make different .d2x files for
Sets, uniques, rares, etc. You can have several .d2x stashes open in
ATMA at the same time.
However, if I am searching for a particular set or a particular
unique, I just switch to the "sort-by-name" mode in ATMA, and find it
easily, so I just use one .d2x stash for my 1.10 stuff, and one for my
older stuff.
It might be useful to create separate stashes for each set where the
items do not start with the same name (e.g., Orphan's Call).
>What is Auto-Gather in ATMA?
IIRC it was supposed to gather items from .d2c or .d2i files (don't
remember which), but I only got crashes when trying it.
BTW, don't do anything with ATMA on pre-1.10 characters (convert them
to 1.10 in the game first). I only got crashes when I tried it (ok,
maybe Tenshi fixed that in the meantime).

You meant "minus the ladder-only runewords", right?

the preferred method of storing items are stashes. Go Utility/New Stash and
follow the dialog. On the left hand window, choose the D2X tab and you'll
see your new stash. When you open your character on the D2S tab, you can
drag and drop items between your char and the stash.
You can create as many stashes as you like, mebbe Unique, Set, Rare stashes
and so on. There is no items limit on a stash, but it could take longer to
open a stash with many items.
Under Options, check Auto Backup and Auto Save, ATMA then will create
backups of your chars. If you accidentally delete an item, uncheck Auto
Save and quit ATMA. Your item will be back.
Export can be used to send items to somebody else, but you also can send a
complete stash.
If you create copies of your Diablo II/Save directory, you can access this
from ATMA and check on earlier stages of your chars
Don't forget to check out the ATMA bank (store excess gold) and Drop Calc.

There's a patch that enables all ladder-only runewords and items in SP,
except there is no Diablo Clone and Annihilus. Some of the runewords are
buggy (for example GRIEF), but most of them work fine.
But with this patch enabled, you can't play online (with normal versions).

from Chaosempire, yes. I tried connecting to B-net once with the mod
enabled, and an item with one of the ladder-only runewords went *poof*.
So I guess you can play online with the mod, but you can't bring your
runeworded items (enabled by the patch).
OTOH, I see two batch files that just swap in the correct mpq patch file
before starting the game - shouldn't be too difficult.
Regards,
Oliver
ps. I really like this mod and would never go back...

Oh? If I download Chaos Empire, the online runeword will be available
to SP? Great, I had not had the chance to try Insight when playing
online last time. I gotta get this patch going Hopefully the file
is not big, I only have dialup at home. I'd hate to have to go to
campus to download and burn it to a CD. Is the gameplay still going to
be the same as regular Diablo with this patch? And also, if I want to
connect to B.net I have to swap the file back if I don't want to lose
the patch runewords, right? Yeah, I know I won't ever make a Grief so
I have no worry there Insight and Spirit are the only two I want to
have.
By the way, about ATMA again, does .d2x differentiate between Hardcore
and Softcore? I want a Guardian! The title sounds cool. But on the
other hand, if it's too much adrenaline, I will eventually go back to
Softcore, so I want to know if the items are transferrable Cheating? Of course! Perhaps I'll even drag some mules along so I can
farm runes, lol. But then I'll have to create a Javazon to find grey
items, meaning I'll have to do countless MF runs again to find
equipments for her, meaning I'll have to do more countless MF runs to
find equipments for my sorceress to be able to comfortably do countless
MF runs to find equipments for my Javazon. Ah well, the circle of evil
(or a pentagram?)

not the Chaos Empire mod. It is on the CE web site, though. Only activates
all the runewords in SP, and fixes a bug in some language versions. Also
this fix doesn't influence the english version. Here is the link:
The second one points directly to the file. Oh well, just checked the links
and found CE now wants you to register.
I have the file somewhere, so I could e-mail it to you. It isn't too big as
far as I remember.

You can't use ATMA on closed b-net, as that stores your chars on the
Blizzard servers.

That'd be awesome if you can email the file to me. Please send it to
my email address above. Thanks

Oh yes, I'm aware of that. I don't intend to play on realm (at least
not for the moment anyways). My question is, suppose I create a
Hardcore SP character then she finds a Lidless Wall. I decide to move
that to .d2x with ATMA. Then I create a Softcore SP character, can I
pull that Lidless Wall from the .d2x file for her?
I tried the above procedure with the starter item, Short Staff +1 to
Firebolt, and there was no problem. But I was wondering, if ATMA put
restrictions on unique items. Because I know it is not possible to
move a Hardcore item to a Softcore character in B.net play.
I want to have a title Guardian just because it sounds cool, but if
that means that the SP Hardcore items are not transferrable to SP
Softcore items, then forget about it.

I am not Oliver, but ATMA works on .d2c files (characters), not on
games. Since you can use these character files for SP, TCP/IP, and
open battle.net, ATMA is useful for all of these modes.

No, you can use the items in an ATMA stash for HC or SC characters.

ATMA's is a must for all SPers. Absolutely marvelous. It'll make you jealous
when you have to do the whole mule thing on the Realms.
