Hey guys,
I need some help.
I pulled out a mobo from a IBM aptiva and installed it. It only has 64 megs of ram and it needs ibm ram only (which costs a grip). I think the bios checks the ram chip to see if it is an ibm brand ram stick. I have some ram lying around and want to use that.

This is what i plan on doing but im not sure if it will work. Since acer supplied this mobo for ibm, i plan on flashing the bios to the one on acer's site. This way i can use any kind of ram, and possibly see some performace gains. Do u think the acer bios would work? From what i believe they are identical mobos. Let me know what u think.

Here are some links for people who want to take a look:

any help or opinions would be much appreciated.

thx

I don't think you'll see that much of a performance gain to justify the risk of flashing the bios. I would pull the memory stick and check the id. You might be able to find a similar brand at places like computergeeks.

No, Ibm ram has a chip that the mobo needs to post.
Has anyone done this kind of thing? like dell, hp, compaqs computers?? Please help.
