Ok at present i have a Abit kt7a raid motherboard with a Via vt8363 chipset. 8363-686b-6a6lma19c-ww. With a Duron 800mhz

Ive been told to upgrade my bios but i cant find the right file on the website to use in the flash

So ive analysed my motherboard book and the settings it says i can get.

The book and bios say that maximum multiplier factor i can have is 12.5 and the cpu fsb is 155 so from that does it mean i can have a processor of 1937.5mhz??(155*12.5) I am wanting to put a Xp2400(2ghz) in as my book says i can have 200/266 and the xp2400 is 266mhz.

Would i be able to use an xp2400 with my settings on 12.5x155 as the xp2400 equals 2ghz in speed and is slightly higher than the 1937mhz i think thats capable here.

Can anyone tell me if anything ive said here is correct and if i can simply get my new processor, and also what settings i would need to change in the bios manually under user define, without upgrading the bios as it seems complicated.

From the Abit site.
ABIT KT7A / KT7A-RAID V1.3 mainboard is hardware compatible (ready) and can support AMD Athlon XP processor via BIOS update.

ABIT KT7 / KT7-RAID / KT7E all version and KT7A/KT7A-RAID V1.0/1.1/1.2 cannot support AMD Athlon XP processor.
Etc. So you see it depends on the hardware revision of the motherboard. The revision level of the hardware is usually silkscreened (painted) on the motherboard. You should be able to read it from there.

on the other hand the US site says this
<A HREF="http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/techspec.php?categories=1&model=87" target="_new">http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/techspec.php?categories=1&model=87</A>
AMD Socket A Athlon (100/133MHz FSB) up to 1.4GHz
- AMD Socket A Duron (100MHz FSB) up to 1.3GHz
- AMD Socket A Athlon XP Palomino (0.18 micron process) up to 2100+
- AMD Socket A Athlon XP Thoroughbred (0.13 micron process) up to 2000+
Well I'm confused too. What is revision on your Motherboard?

That kit can fix you up.

From what i know, i think its is just version 1 and notthe 1.3 version
I read stuff saying you could only have 1400 and others mentioned xps2000+ and as my motherboard says i can have 266mhz i thought that meant i could have an xp cpu.
Its a bit wierd having conflicting information

What will happen if i put my xp2400 cpu in and run it as 133*12.5 multiplier, will it work?

Sorry I dont have the link, but Amd cpus are backwards compatable to run at reduced speeds. Because the multiplier is controlled by the chip, you will probably find that the xp2400 runs at 15X133 on your board. The only real queston I have is if the mobo will allow the usual range of unlocked multipliers for the chip.

my multiplier currently goes up to 12.5. So can i run this cpu at that speed even though it wont give me its full potential without any problems?
