Problems with ECS P6LX-A

Ive just set this motherboard up in a system as follows:

PII 333Mhz Deschutes Core
ECS P6LX-A Mobo (440LX Chipset)
32x CD-ROM
20GB 5400RPM HDD
Geforce 2 MX400 (v45.23 Driver)
250watt PSU
256MB RAM (2x128Mb)

I am having some strange problems. After a successful install of Windows 2000, I installed the Gfx Card Drivers, however when I went to Hardware Devices list the computer froze and the monitor shut off. I have since found that the computer is completely stable apart from whenever I try to display any information about the hardware. Ive tried completely relaxing memory timings (even though im running Crucial PC133 at 66Mhz), Disabling UDMA within the BIOS, setting the IRQ's to be managed by both Windows and the BIOS, but none of these solved the problem.

Im wondering whether there is perhaps some sort of IRQ conflict between the Geforce 2 card and another component. Or perhaps the GFX card isnt being assigned an IRQ. But there is no option to change this in the BIOs.

Could the problem perhaps be caused by using such modern graphics card drivers on such an old card and system? Or perhaps the card is drawing too much current from the AGP slot? The previous card was a Rage Pro AGP that worked perfectly.

Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thx.

I've just tried uninstalling the Graphics driver and with no driver installed everything works fine. I am also able to see that the Graphics card is currently using IRQ9 and that this is being used by nothing else which rules out an IRQ conflict. I also tried installing the 41.09 drivers which always used to work on this card and I get exactly the same problem.

Is this perhaps just an incompatibilty with nVidia cards? maybe I should try buying a Radeon 7000 just to see whether the ATI equivalent would work. Or perhaps its just specific to the card? I'll try plugging in a Geforce 4 Mx440 in a min, just to be sure.

what brand psu?

you have to remember that the gts is prolly gonna draw more than 2x the power the rage pro does...the rage pro is using 8mb of memory and a mesely 75mhz gpu...the thing sips power...i had one...good gpu for overclocking the agp bus...can handle up to a 100mhz agp clk

Well, I just tried the Geforce 4 MX 440 and it worked perfectly, so I dont think it is a power issue. I reckon its probably just an incompatibility issue with this shitty board. I hate dealing with POS mobos like this :frown:
