Oblivion crash on greeting

I just re-installed Oblivion after a period of not having it, it worked fine before.
Now it crashes everytime I approach a friendly character to initiate conversation.
Any insight anybody can offer on this.

hey , the engine this and indeed fallout3 use is VERY prone to random crashes on almost any combination of hardware , my experience stems mainly on fallout for this one,but it revolved around audio codecs,and the fact it uses bink video. i cant stress enough , that codec packs are havens for all sorts of malware , and that you need to thoroughly scan any pack you download BEFORE and AFTER installing
