Hi,

Does the 3.5.1 SW fix the SW bugs present in the 3.1.1 Photosmart
series SW? When un-installing the 3.1.1 SW, is it best to avoid using
the CD uninstall (I've read in places it can mess up .NET and other
shared components)?

The problems I've experienced with the 3.1.1 SW for a PSC 2510 network
attached printer have been reported with much frustration by others
(scanner going disconnected for no obvious reason, constantly
re-installing drivers anytime a CD or USB memory key is inserted,
problems shutting down, hords of logs due to their SW apparently
scanning multiple ports on the net, etc.). The system has been
thoroughly checked for viruses, trojans, etc. and is clean - and other
SW is current.

Am using the SW for a PSC 2510xi All-In-One in wired network mode on a
Windows XP system (SP2 now, but was SP1 when installed) using a
static ipAddress. Regardless of multiple uninstalls/re-installs,
installing updates, patches, (all with careful attention to firewalls,
etc.) and interacting with HP support starting shortly after getting
the printer in April, the SW does not work right. This is clearly
buggy HP SW - the printer can work fine and then disappear even though
it is clearly reachable via the WWW interface; and the scanner is
hardly visible at any time.

I'm pretty much fed up with HP support - online support documentation
is inadequate and support (human and otherwise) basically fails to
acknowledge and honestly address these publically documented problems.
It's as if they are more interested in avoiding honestly dealing with
problems than in really satisfying their customers.

Thanks,

Carl
