Wrong channel???? Phone goes into analog

A similar thing happened to me, my nearest cell site quit working for me.
My wife had no problem, but she had a 1x phone, so it was only the channels
that MY phone used that were defective. In your case, if you force the
phone to digital, it could very well 'see' a digital tower, somewhere else.
But allowed to choose the tower, it will choose the nearest, and that one
may have a problem with the digital equipment...like mine.

It took more than one of us to complain, and it paid to be persistant. But
once they figure out you know what you're talking about, they are very good
about fixing problems. Problems they may very well not know about. Ask for
technical help, don't settle for a normal CS agent. Pursuade them to open a
trouble ticket, and give them your phone number for testing.
