I was having trouble with my homebuilt computer and it would not boot properly and then it went dead...mb was fried. Just installed a new ASUS mb, hooked everything up and powered up...xp pro would not come up so I booted from my cd drive with a LEGAL copy of xp pro and went into the repair mode. Everything was working great but now it wants my CD Key and I cannot find it. I purchased an OEM copy from newegg with hardware when I built my computer two years ago and it only came in a cellophane wrapper with the key on the cellophane. When my office was cleaned it was thrown away as garbage! Is there anyway to locate cd key from cd? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try to collect all the info you can about your copy of windows and call microsoft. They MIGHT issue you a new key or even the one you had.

What if you are going to reinstall Windows XP Home, can't find your cd key, but you still have Windows on your computer? Is there a way to pull the cd-key off of the computer?

Yes the key is stored on the computer. I have a program that allows you to view the key, PM your email address and I will send it to you, its only 12K.
