The motherboard on my hp pavilion N5210 notebook recently bit the dust and I would like to replace it. Do I need to find an exact replacement, or is it possible to purchase one that is compatible without paying the exhorbitant hp prices? If so, how can I tell what will be compatible? Thanks.

Some "brand name" notebooks are made by cheap notebook makers and relabled, allowing you to use the parts from the cheaper version. Unfortunately this is rare, and without that kind of information you're stuck buying the parts from either HP, a notebook parts supplier (often scraps them for parts) or off a private seller at places like ebay.

Many notebooks are retired from broken screens, then parted, so you might find a used unit on ebay.
