An uninstalling question from a novice...

I recently bought a new PC with an AMD Athlon 64-bit processor without
any operating software. I also, I'm ashamed to say, bought a cracked
copy of windows XP pro 64-bit off of the internet. The last laugh was
on me however as, unsurprisingly, the activation code failed and I
decided to invest in a legitimate copy of windows XP Pro. This time I
bought a 32-bit edition as I was having some compatibility problems
with 64 (macromedia, realplayer, etc.), I'll probably buy the 64 bit
update when it comes out at the end of the year.

Anyways, I obviously now want to uninstall the cracked 64-bit edition
and install the legitimate 32-bit copy. How?

I've made copies of everything I want to keep and because it's a
completely new computer, there is really nothing I'm bothered about
losing.

In windows help it talks about uninstalling from the add/remove program
but when I go into it, XP is not listed.

Any help would be greatfully received. I'm useless with computers so
please be gentle.

Thanks,

J

You need to do a clean install. Boot with the XP Pro cd and go into
Setup. Delete the current system partition, create a new one, format
NTFS, and install Windows on it.

More properly, install the RETAIL copy of Windows XP.
XP has no uninstall feature unless you UPGRADED from a previous
version of Windows.

In your case you will have to do a CLEAN install of XP 32-bit, since
XP 64-bit must be installed CLEAN.
