Hi,
I have a Sparkle 8400GS 512MB and Intel E5200 @3.00GHz(overclocked)
I get ~15 FPS at lowest settings in GTA 4
The highest resolution of my monitor is 1024*768
I have planned to buy the following:
PSU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
GPU:
XFX GeForce GTS 250 1 GB

I will like to know if i could get ~ 30-40 FPS with these settings
Res- 1024*768(60Hz)
Texture- High
Shadow- Very High
Water- Very High
Reflection- Very High
Textue Filtering- Highest
View Distance - To the extent the left over memory allows
Detail Distance - 100
Car Density- 40-50(cuz of bad CPU)
Shadow Density- 8
Definition - ON
Vsync - ON

The rest of my system specs are:
Windows XP SP3
2 GB 667MHz RAM (Transcend PC5300)
250GBx2 HDD
AsRock 945GCM-S
XFX GeForce GTS 250 1 GB
Intel E5200 @ 3.00GHz(overclocked from 2.5GHz)

Thnx

gta4 stagered on my pc when i tested a friends gts250 512mb, this game really needs a high end dual core or a quad core to get decent frame rate, my board uses the 945gcm chipset (no s on mine though) with 2gb 667 ram, u may get playable frame rates on low but the game will look crappy.
my current specs are below.

I think you'll need a higher end GPU to get such high settings, even at that low resolution.

No it iwll run like ass. If you dont have a Highend 45nm core2 or a quad good luck having a decent experience with that game.

At 3ghz with 2Gb of ram and a 250 you will have some major lag using the above settings. I have tried similar settings with a quad core at 3.6Ghz/4GB Ram and a GTX 275 and it still lags, specially when there is a lot of action going on.

i cant even run it at those settings with my 4890 and phenom ii 550.

so no.

the pc port is awful, and need s an overpowered pc to run it.
i just picked up the xbox version after putting up with the pc version for a week.

A core2 duo is a big no no for gta4 irrespective of its speed...to play the game at optimum settings you would need at least a tri core processor or more...

I recommend yo to make the following changes for better gameplay..
Texture-medium.(gpu limitation)
shadow-high\medium(gpu limitation)
detail distance-1(highly cpu limited)
view distance-1(highly cpu limited)
shadow density-1(highly cpu limited)
vsync-off
car density-you can increase it to 100(no cpu bottleneck) but might not be able run your ass up when the cop is on your tail..

all other settings are ok

Not on high settings but should be playable. Game does need lot of CPU power and loves more cores, it also needs lot of RAM and GPU memory but not that much GPU power. GTS 250 1GB will be fine for 1024x768 or 1280x1024 or even 1650x1080. But you would need more CPU power and more Ram. Try overclocking Your CPU a bit more .

I have a friend wit E2220 @3.2GHz and HD 4830 and it is playable. It would help to have quad core but probably not worth if it is just for one game.

You should also look into getting more RAM. GTA IV uses a lot of RAM i have 6GB and have seen RAM usage to go over 5GB when palying GTAIV game alone using over 3.5GB. Also might to overclock Your Ram to 800MHz, most of the 667MHz Rams I have had can do it easily.

GTA IV runs beautifully on my Q6600 @3.2GHz, 6GB RAM and 8800 GTS 512 MB @1280x1024 only thing limiting my settings is low video card memory. So You should be fine with GTS 250 1GB but might need more CPU power and RAM

With that build and those settings, you'll likely have an avg. fps of 15.

I run GTA4 on the hardware specified in my sig. and I get an average of 38-50 fps in 1920x1080. Resolution really isn't the big deal here as this lousy port is 80% cpu limited. As many ppl before me has mentioned - This game needs multiple cpu-cores..... 3+ at least.

i surprisingly got average 15 FPS at that settings

I made texture med and lowered some more view distance and car density (by 10), shadow density(half i.e.4) ,detail distance(by 20) and shadow quality(by one) .
and now i get 35 FPS. Can 2GB more Ram make it run at the previous settings i mentioned? cuz i cannot buy a quad core for at least a year :(

yes you would need 64 bit OS to increase your ram to 4GB.....click on the following links to know about overclocking:
