Sims 3 a different problem

I've been playing sims3 on my XP with the 8800gts and its been playing fine but it decided to die so i upgraded to the 250gts and now all my characters have spikes in their heads. I have to keep the graphics lo-med in the game settings and even then periodically the graphics go crazy. So what mistake have I made?
