My friend needs advice on buying a notebook, she can spend at most $1200-$1300.
She is not a serious gamer. She wants a DVD+-RW drives, but is willing to live with an external if necessary.
A s-video output is a must. She is more concerned with reliability than with performance.
Unfortunately I like to build my own systems, so I have no clue as to the reputation of the various brands.
What I would like would be for people to give me some good canidates which I could then investigate.
If I had to pick one today I would probably get this one

Mainly becuase its a top 10 seller at newegg and I haven't found any bad review yet. 
That looks like a pretty good bang for the buck laptop. It looks a little more sturdy than other Acer laptops I've delt with.
Hopefully it comes with the dongle to convert that yellow port on the side to svideo and rca outputs Eh, I'm sure it will. Other manufacturers do the same thing.
