I have just bought an asus a7n8x-x mobo. I have a problem in that my computer turns straight off when i restart, press reset or update the bios. Im obviously not sure where to connect the wires from the front, like the frontal usb, etc.
I have a xp1800 cpu and 512 ddr 3200 ram.
I am also wondering where I go in the bios to pump up the mhz and ram to the proper speed? At the moment its only at about 1100. What other options are there to up the speed?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Well, let's start with making sure everything is hooked up correctly before we worry about "upping the speed." The best place to start, of course, is the manual. I know it can be cryptic at times, because the Taiwaneese are notoriously horrible at english translation, but hang in there.

On page 8 you'll get an overall diagram of the mobo with a good detailed description of the components on the right. This is where you look to see, in a general sense, where to plug which cables in.

Pages 31 and 33 may be more helpful in your case as they get more specific about the exact pin layout of the 2 Front USB2.0 connectors and the power/restart/system speaker & front LED connectors. Don't worry too much about which pin is power and which is ground. The only ones it matters for are the LEDs, and if they're backwards they simply won't turn on (just reverse the connection).
When you feel confident about your setup, reply or sent me a message and I'll start walking you through the BIOS.

Fur reference, the English manual can be downloaded Here

Alright. In the BIOS, go to the advanced options, and then scroll down to advanced chipset features and hit enter. This is where all of your realy critical settings take place. Normally, most of these will be fine under the (auto) setting, but occasionally the may need to be manually adjusted (like now). Your XP 1800 runs at ~1533MHz, which is 133MHz (core clock) times the multiplier, 11.5 (Your Frot Side Bus (FSB), is what connects your CPU to other areas of the mobo such as the RAM, and its speed will commonly be rated at twice your core clock. Thus you may hear people refer to your chip as having a 266MHz FSB, or an XP2500 w/333MHz FSB, XP 3200 w/400MHz FSB, etc. It's easy to get confused by these related but different numbers.).

Adjust your CPU External Frequency (core clock speed) to 133MHz and leave your multiplier set to auto, save, and reboot. Your POST screen should now display your CPU as an 1800. If not, enter the BIOS again and manually set the multiplier to 11.5 and try it again. If things still don't seem right, feel free to sent me a message.
