Currently have V60i, but hinge is starting to break after being
dropped too often. This phone has the best reception of all the
phones in my family (wife has VX4400, kids have VX6000 and VX3200, and
to me, V60i is better by a wide margin. None of these newer phones
work as well (for talking!) as my V60i. Only phone I ever heard that
was as good was my very old startac (talking was excellent on that
one, too).
I am going to need a new phone, unfortunately. I would GREATLY
appreciate recommendations as to which current Verizon phone is
considered to have the best (talking!!) capabililities. Thanks alot!!
PS - never heard a Samsung - how do they compare with the others? I
prefer a trimode phone, if possible.

This is not a scientific study of couse, but on a recent trip from Seattle
to Whitefish, MT, I had no problems with my Samsung SCH-a650. It went
analog in parts of Mt. Rainer NP, and worked fine. Coverage thru Washington
state, Idaho and Montana seemed very good (indicator was mostly "1X" digital
did not see "A" too often)
I had to have a tri-mode phone and 1xRTT laptop data capability, and the
a650 was the lowest cost tri-mode phone VZW had that supported the Mobile
Office Kit. ($129 for the phone IIRC).
I found there was quite a bit of confusion between VZW website
specifications, in-store display placards, and salesperson knowledge
regarding tri-mode. The VZW salesguy thought I was some kind of luddite
weirdo that I insisted on analog capability -- now I'm very glad I did
insist on it. Make sure you triple check at third party web sites regarding
any specific model's capabilities.
Good luck,
-- Paul

Yea, I'll tell you what...nothing beats my old startac. These new phones
(V60S, LG 4400 & 4500) are not worth a damn.

Check out the A650 from Samsung. I say it's the same in holding or starting
a call, with better clarity than my 7868W

And, at 15 bucks each phone at Verizon, much better than the 220 I paid for
each one 7 years ago
