Has anybody been using the combination AMD+ASUS/VIA +RedHat8/9

I am interested in upgrading my PC to the above configuration..

I do not need the latest arrivals .. but need the system to perform fast computation and some 512MB/1GB RAM.

And of course I do not want to burn a hole in my pocket; in fact I need to keep my pocket light..

Finally I want to have Red Hat 9 recognize the processor and mobo without a hitch during installation..

Could somebody suggest which processor and mobo/chipset in particular I should go for ??

I have a ASUS A7V333 mobo a AMD XP 1700 right now with a 1Gb of RAM. I have no probs installing Redhat 8 or upgrading to 9. I haven't get a clue as to what Mobo your looking at and cpu. Really shouldn't matter to Linux in the least. Just make sure you have a compadible graphics card and if you want sound make sure you have a compadible sound card. I have an Audigy Gamer and Redhat won't see it. Samething goes for your Modem or NIC. I can't speak for the newer mobo's out there. I haven't had 1 prob in the least and Redhat screams with all the RAM I gave it.

Good luck
