Game crashing when I click 'New Game' in menu

So, i decided to install Vampire Masquerade: Bloodlines.
I played it a long time ago when it first came out, and i had a different PC back then.
It installed fine, but the game crashes when I click 'New Game' in menu.

I've tried:
Running it in compatibility mode (all of them)
Running it in safe mode.
Installing updates (official and then also fan made)
I disabled Visual Themes in the shortcut.
And as always i have the latest drivers, blah blah blah (as if that really means anything on a 5 year old game)

My computer is:
AMD: Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 2991 MHz
Mobo: Gigabyte M57SLI-S4 v.2
RAM: 4GB Mushkin DDR2 PC2-6400
OS: Win 7 64bit
VC: EVGA 8800 GTS 320MB

The 1st thing that comes to mind is a program compatibility issue. I had DVD43 for decoding dvds installed and if I left it running prior to starting up my very old game, Command and Conquer Generals, it would give me the blue screen of death. This is on the system in my sig.

This may not be it but is the 1st thing I would look at. Try exiting out of programs running in startup and see if it still does it. If that fixes it then 1 by 1 run the programs and test the game until you find the culprit...
