I am about ready to upgrade my 1.4 GHz AMD Thunderbird processor and in doing so will also need a new motherboard, my current one is maxed out with the T-Bird.
I'd like to upgrade to an AMD (to keep the price down) but the wide variey of chips and opinions have me confused to say the least. I hope that some people could give me their personal reccomendations based on their experience.
I did forget to mention that I have 2 X 200 and 1 X 60 GB hard drives that I would like to hook up as fast as possible (SCSI?) while still maintaining a reasonable price.
I'm looking to spend about $400 tops.
Edited by Eyedea on 10/18/03 09:19 PM.

First, regarding your harddrives, they're either SCSI or they're not (probably IDE). If not then SCSI doesn't enter into the picture. You could RAID them however (the pair of 200's anyway). Regarding the m/b recommendation, I'll assume you're talking socket A (not 64 bit stuff). Something based on the nForce2 is probably the best choice right now. Depends on exactly what you have in mind for the system as a whole though. There are numerous boards out there based on the nForce2, with various features at various prices. You could potentially use integrated video, sound, LAN and RAID and / or SATA. Just depends what you're budget's like and what you plan on doing with it. The XP2500 is probably the 'performance bargain' chip out there right now, with good OC potential. Depends on whether or not you have any plans to OC.
That (upgrade) which does not destroy you(r system's stability), makes it stronger. Nietzche
