Hi,
I am looking for a $100+/- Mobo but what is the most advanced chipset SiS, Intel or VIA chipsets and will a mobo upgrade with WinXP be easy? Do i need to delete all the drivers before the upgrade or will WinXP notice the changes? I have a Compaq Deskpro P3 ATX box all I want is to remove the Mobo and CPU and place in the new ones, How can I be sure that the power/fan will work with a new mobo?
Oh last thing will the original hard drive 10GB yes an old one work with the P4 mobo (I also have a 120GB hard drive)
Thanks<P ID="edit"><FONT SIZE=-1><EM>Edited by FastMan on 10/24/03 09:43 PM.</EM></FONT></P>

The best board I can think of in the $100+/- range is the Abit IS7. Intel makes the best chipsets (865/875), followed by SiS's 655FX.

I would replace the case. With most, you'll get a new power supply, and won't have to worry about making modifications to get your new board to fit. If you get a premium video card, get a premium power supply as well to power it. Antec, enermax, sparkle (fortron), seasonic, and enlight are all pretty good power supplies.

I want to go as cheep as can be with this as this is my second comp I only want a 1.8 or 2.0Ghz P4 im not about to buy a box as well. I dont need a mobo for anything more then 2.0Ghz and 400/533 FSB. My power supply has only 145W if it is to low i can buy just that part

Change your PSU. I smoked my 250W last year?

I found a 400W for a good price and I will get a P4 2.2Ghz 800 FSP and a gigabyte 865PE Mobo. Dose the Mobo need a fan? Right now I only have a fan for the CPU and the fan in the PSU should there be another one?
Thanks for everyones help.

Make sure you get a good PSU. Intel does not make 2.2 800 Fsb. That would be 2.4C. IS7 Abit Mobo New Egg $103. When you buy retail Cpu comes with heatsink and fan.

Via, then intel, then sis are the bottom of the barrel in that order. NF2 is top of the heap no matter how you look at it. Now if you have a p4 system then you should just sell the chip, buy an amd and make a system based on the nf2 chipset.
