I'm building a computer for an uncle, and he wants the best deal he can get for AU$2k - that's roughly US$1400.
He likes his comps to last for a while. But he is also terrified of AMD CPUs. (Don't ask me why. I've never had a problem with my one.)

Anyway, it works out that, after all the peripherals are bought (1GIG RAM, 160GIG HD, Monitor, etc.) We have enough cash left over to buy either 1 2.6C and an Asus board with the 865 chipset, or a 2.8C with the revamped 848P chipset. Any advice? If it were me, I'd just spend the extra $80 or so and get the 865 and 2.8C, but he's a bit of a tight wad. No he doesn't read Toms Hardware forums :p.

That's roughly the same price as the Asus boards - but I don't know of any suppliers near me who deal in Abit.

I can get Intel, Gigabyte, Asus, DFI, Soltek, Soyo, and near all the others by visiting the normal places near my house, but Abit noone deals in.
