You can turn on printer sharing, and do the usual stuff needed
so that the systems can talk to each other (e.g., same workgroup,
same subnet.)

I do not recall at the moment whether printer sharing is dependant
upon NETBIOS over IP.

XP PRO makes it relatively easy to configure printer sharing -- you
pretty much have to go out of your way to turn it off. You can,
as I recall, adjust your local security policy to block printer sharing
or refine who can share printers or who can install new printer drivers.
(Right-click on "My Computer" and select "Manage" from that menu,
or alternately run the program named MMC . You might have to add
security policies as a "snap in" before you get it as a menu item
via MMC. But not security -templates- : that is for configuring
something different.)

You can get a print server and plug it into the printer and the router. All
machines will print to the printer and you don't need the printer connected
to a computer that's sharing the printer on the network.
