I am looking to buy a dual CPU system. As far as I've seen, the fastest FSB on a dual CPU mobo is 533MHz. Am I wrong? Are there any out there that have an 800MHz FSB and support Dual Channel DDR400? Please let me know, thanks

You are right to an extent. There are no dual xeons as yet with more than 533MHz (effective) bus. However, if you have the money, you could go for a dual opteron 24X system(you didn't specifically say you wanted intel).Opteron's don't have an FSB really because they use a hypertransport link but they perform damn well and can use dual DDR400(AFAIK- i think they have made dual boards compatible with DDR400 too(?)-it was initially just DDR333).

no matter how hard you try, you can't polish a turd. :]
Edited by ad_rach on 11/06/03 03:40 PM.

Will depend to some extent on whether registered DDR400 is available yet. Oh yes, I see Kingston is marketing registered DDR400 HyperX for the Athlon FX, nice. Not sure what happened to the 800MHz Xeons, think they are waiting for the Nocona B core on 0.09microns which should be released in H1 2004 along with the corresponding Lindenhurst chipset complete with PCI Express, DDR-II etc.
