Gigabytes website only lists the 266FSB .18u AMD Athlon XP+ processors as working with this combination.

Has anyone tried a 266FSB .13u Barton core Athlon XP+ in a Gigabyte GA-7ZX(5.1) motherboard?

If not, can anyone suggest why it would not work?

Thanks,
David

A Barton won't work, as it's 166Mhz Bus is too high for the mobo (I've got one here at work, oddly enough)

Although it will go up to 166Mhz, at that speed the PCI bus is 42Mhz, which is probably too high for most cards & will give you no end of problems.

I can't see any reason why a 266Fsb T-bred (A or B) shouldn't work though, so you could try a 2400+ or something.

There actually are two versions of the Barton core. One operates at 266MHz(133x2), the other at 333MHz(166x2).

I was referring to the ones that run at 266MHz(133x2).

Could you tell me where you got that information? It's news to me... IIRC, the t-bred 'B' comes in 266 & 333 flavours, and the Barton comes in 333 (2500+ upwards) and 400(3200+, some 3000+) flavours.

In theory of course, any Barton could be made to run at 266FSB with a raised multiplier, but most will need modding to get multis higher than 12.5X
