Using duron 1.4ghz with 256mb adata ddr 400 clocked at 266 and i get constant complete lock ups. Any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix it? Pretty sure it isnt the ram as i have swapped with with other ram and it still locks up, im thinking its a motherboard problem.

The Duron still runs at only a 200 MHz. front side bus speed I think. You aren't trying to run it at 266 MHz. are you?

Im almost 100% positive these new durons run with 133mhz fsb, the guy i bought it off told me so. And the multiplier is locked on the cpu so to get it to 1.4Ghz the fsb must be 133.

IFAIK the only 133 Bus Duron is the new 1.6Ghz one.

Set the bus speed to 100 and see what speed the processor actually runs at, then you'll know for sure.

Well the multiplier is locked at 10.5 so as far as i can tell it is a 133 fsb model, and im pretty sure the guy i got it off knows what hes selling.

That link is talking about 1.4Ghz Athlons and 950Mhz Durons. It makes no mention of a 1.4Ghz Duron. Hardly suprising, seeing as it's a link to a news story in 2001. That must be the Thunderbird Athlon core (as later cores would be listed as 'XP1700+' or whatever, not 1.4Ghz), there have been 4 Athlon cores since (Palomino, Thoroughbred A, Thoroughbred B, & Barton) and that's not counting the Duron variants.

But more to the point, a 1.4, 133FSB duron does seem to exist. AMD don't seem to want to provide a simple list of processors, which seems weird to me, but I looked around and found some mentions of a 1.4Ghz, 133FSB apaloosa[sp?] Core duron.

Anyway, let's try and solve your problem...

What Power supply are you using? Have you tried a different one? Although assuming you're using the onboard graphics that system shouldn't be making too much demand on the PSU...

Have you installed all the latest Motherboard drivers?

What sort of temperature is the chip running at?

Did you try to run it at 100 MHz? Just to see? Ya know that sometimes people think they know what they are selling, but make MISTAKES...try it out to see. I have never heard of a 1.4 Duron that runs 133.

I have just installed the latest VIA drivers. I ran memtest on the computer for an hour and it came up all fine. The chip temp after running memtest was 45 degrees C. The psu is a YAHA 300W. It came with the case I bought. The voltages are all about right except for the 12V rail which is running around 12.5-12.6V.
