As time passes, what moments from older games might remain in your mind forever?

Here's my list, all are from first-person shooter games. The moments are so bizarre that I will probably never forget them. What makes them bizarre is that they are not in cutscenes but in actual gameplay! You can control the character when they happen. :o

1. Alien vs Predator 2. When you play as an alien, you start second or third level as a little chestburster inside a man and you must scratch and eat your way out of him.

2. Quake 4. You get captured by Strogg and the next level begins with your character tied and lying on a conveyor belt. You can turn around and watch how your limbs are cut off and replaced by Strogg bodyparts as the character is moved forward on the assembly line.

3. Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. You are on the deck of a battleship and suddenly you see a huge wave approaching and must experience its impact (and then there is also the attack by the huge sea monster). The moments of insanity and different chases by fish men are quite memorable too.

Umm, GTA san andreas, getting hit by an airplane that was crashing out of the sky. Not online.

Bioshock - the ending. Didn't see that coming!

Timesplitters 2 - Harry Tipper escaping from the chari you first meet him in, genius and funny.

Earthworm Jim (SNES) - pressing the "whip" button for the first time without knowing what it did.

Driller (Spectrum) - first First Person Perspective game I ever saw. It was amazing. Now, the graphics and 3 seconds per frame are laughable, but then it was astounding.

Gran Tourismo 2 intro - first thing I fired up in my PS2 and it took my breath away, the car in the opening credits was gorgeous and so detailed. Shame the rest of the cars in the game didn't quite match up, but never mind.

I got 'caught out' by one of the admins when they wondered why it was taking over 45 mins to backup my network drive (and Quake) every week. 80MB was a lot in them days - especially to copy over to tape... We one of the first ever parallel based CD writers back then, it was a hit or a miss if your CD actually worked after...

I think when it got to the stage of 20 people coming into the computer lab to play Quake every lunch time the computer teacher said enough was enough... Not before the technician had set up the projector and started playing Quake over that though!! :D

OT: 40 FDD's... That reminds me of when i bought all the batch of 100 FDD's from the computer dept for 10p each then sold them off round the school for 20p each... :kaola:

Diablo 2: After you defeat Diablo and you get that message that tells you the game ends in 60 seconds.

Tekken 3: When you unlock Jin's other form.

Call of Duty 1: When you got to drive the tank.

A couple from Half Life 2; that moment when you first step off of the train is incredible, you get such a sense of involvement, and also the first time I heard and saw 'The cake is a lie' on portal, that was a true epic win of a moment.

Can't believe no one mentioned this yet, but the normandy beach landing in MOH:AA was such an intense level. I remember beating the game and going back just to replay that level. With the technology today and especially the cinematic quality of MW2, I'd like to see what that level would be like using the MW2 engine.

Funny moments:

- secret cow level in Diablo
- exploding sheep and seals in Warcraft 2
- Secondhand Lands (hilarious MMO game, a parody on faery-tales and fantasy MMORPGs)
- shooting down the moon in Terminator: Future Shock
- Big Rigs (voted as the worst PC game by Gamespot)
- deaths in King's Quest, Space Quest and Leisure Suit Larry games
- taunts and breaking the toilet in Duke Nukem 3D
- arcade game machines in Doom 3
January 25, 2010 2:21:38 PM

1. Playing Duke Nukem 3D when I was 8 and realized there was a "Turn porn on option". Then having it mysteriously disappear from the computer when our parents realized what we were playing.

2. SkiFree. I HATE THAT ABDOMINAL SNOWMAN!!

3. Taking 15 years to beat Mario World 2 because we thought the number on the "login" screen was percentage, not number of levels (so we thought we were 98% complete for 15 years trying to complete the last 2% :p )

Playing the Killer Quake mod for Quake 1 at the college campus in the 3 different computer labs at the same time on Pentium 75 computers with no sound. We had about 16 people playing at the same time. It was so much fun. They hated me because I would use the air gun to shoot them into the water, or hit them with the syringe so they lost blood and watched them run around the map with no arms.

Playing the original tribes and the Anni Mod.

Listening to your friend cry when they see all your Ultralisks attacking his base in StarCraft.

Pipe bombs and trip mines in duke dukem 3D.
Listening to Dukem Sing.

Finding out what the BFG meant in Doom 2 ( and fighting the CyberDemon).

Some memorable game quotes:

"Go for the eyes, Boo, go for the eyes!" (Minsc)

"You're an inspiration for birth control!" (Duke Nukem)

"I am not getting paid enough to die!" (dropship)

"Look at you, hacker. A pathetic creature of meat and bone, panting and sweating as you run through my corridors. How can you challenge a perfect, immortal machine?" (S.H.O.D.A.N)

"Greetings! Stay a while and listen." (Deckard Caine)

"Go for the flag!" (BF)

"Yes, my liege." (footman)

"Guten Tag!" (Trans Grosse)

"Finish Him! ... Fatality!" (announcer)

"Dominating! ... Unstoppable! ... Godlike! ... Mega Kill! ... Holy S**t!" (announcer)

I hear ya, KOTOR was my favorite game too. I tried so hard to make it work on Vista, but it was one crash after another. I wish they would make KOTOR 3, but they are focused on this MMO. :pfff:

Anyway, some of my favorite moments are:
Final Fantasy VII - The whole game was awesome!
Neverwinter Nights - Romancing Aribeth was so much fun!
KOTOR - Romancing Bastilla, and finding out I was Revan.
KOTOR II - The Exile's story is so sad, it is classic!
