I just purchased the Asus AMD AthlonXP A7N8X Deluxe mobo, along with the AMD AthlonXP 2500+ "Barton" 1.83ghz processor. I connected this in my case, and connected my hard drives and cd-roms. I turned on my system, and went to boot up windows, and got a stop error. So, I decided to install XP again, so I went into the BIOS to change the boot order. I changed it to cdrom, so that cdrom would boot first. I then put the winXP cd in my cdrom drive and saved changes and rebooted... and it did NOT boot from cd-rom. It also checks my RAM 3 times on the post screen, instead of just one time. I had no problems booting up from linux on my other hard drive, but I cannot boot from XP at all. What should I do? Btw.. since I could not install XP by cdrom, I was forced to install XP to my hard-druve using a different computer. Hard drive is by western digital, and cdrom is by philips. I have 1 stick of 256ram. What should I do to get it to boot from XP?
Set the CMOS boot order to; First Boot CDROM, Second Boot HDD-0, make sure the XP CD is in the CDROM drive, start up the machine watching the lower left of the monitor screen, when you see, Boot From CDROM, press any key, you have about 5 sec, or it will continue to look for a boot device, and you loose your opportunity to boot from the CDROM.
Now if you knew everything I just told you, and had already tried it, and that didn't work, post back.
Alright, first off, thanks for replying. I did what ya said, about the boot order. It does not boot from cd-rom, because I never see the message to boot from cd-rom. It will go all the way and say booting from operating system, then it will try to access the floppy, then it will give me an error like this: PXE-MOF Media unavailable.. check cables. I have checked cables, jumpers, switched cables, and bought new jumpers. It's not the cables that are broke. Whats wrong? Thanks, - Scott
Follow the manuals instructions, and Clear the CMOS memory, if the M/B was pretested before it was shipped and they didn't clear the CMOS, it could be your problem, so clear the CMOS with the computer unplugged from the wall, and reset the date and time, and load setup defaults, and reset the Boot 1 and Boot 2, and save the settings, and see if it comes up with the boot from CDROM like its supposed to. Post back your results.
