Using Mandrake 7.2 with Xfree86 3 default have been reading XFree86 4 has support for Radeon(which I have). So I downloaded followed instruction on how to install. Went thru is all. Then was asked to reboot did that, But instead of GUI coming up I see a dos like prompt asking for login ?
ok so then went back to xf86config, redid it all then used command startx then I get a "no Screen Error found"
So now i'm back at THG looking for some advice. HELP!!!!!!
Hmmm you're liable to have to reconfigure XFree86. The configuration file is stored in a file called XF86Config; the file is usually in some predefined location like /etc or /etc/X11. XF86Config files generated for 3.3.x are not compatible with 4.0.x.
Your best bet is to find your current XF86Config file, back it up somewhere (call it XF86Config.old or XF86Config.bak), and then re-configure XFree86. The easiest way to do this in 4.0.x is to type "XFree86 -configure" and see what happens. It should autodetect everything--your video chipset, your monitor's supported resolutions, etc. etc.
