Hi, I'd just like to start off by saying that I'm planning to purchase a new computer. I normally use AMD based computers but I'd like to make the transition to the P4's. One of my problems is the new CPUs that are coming out and the new PCI Express slot, etc. I'm not exactly sure if I want to wait it out for these new and exciting features.

Anyway, I was wondering about all those different p4 mobo chipsets, there are so many such as the 875P, 865P, etc. They all sound so similar. I was wondering if anyone knew the best chipsets for the P4 or a few good mobos to choose from. Please keep in mind that money is an issue and sometimes feature rich mobos aren't that great.

Again, I don't know much about Intel's P4s or their Xeons or upcoming P5s so I'd like all the help I could get. You can PM me here or e-mail at blackmoon_chronicles@hotmail.com, thanks.

The 875P and 865PE chipsets use the same core. Intel disables a memory shortcut that reduces latency, on the 865 series. Many board manufactures have found a workaround for this. Also, they eliminate the data pins required for ECC memory often used in workstations.

It's up to you whether you wait for new technology or not. The best "bang for the buck" board right now is the Abit IS7 at around $100.

Don't worry about Xeons. The next CPU will likely be called a P4 again, not a P5 as rumored. The best P4 for the cash is the "2.6C", "C" standing for "800MHz" bus (Quad Data Rate at 200MHz clock), these also include Hyper Threading.
