I am looking for feedback as to the reliability of this board, the versions with and without the gigabit LAN. I am looking for a board without any trimmings, wondering how this one is for reliability.

You don't need Intel motherboard for the best reliablility. Intel mobos are for n00bs who treat Intel as god.

Intel mobos seem very stable because they operate at most stable (also slow) settings and gives users no option for changing anything that may cause reliability probs.

My friend does not need or want over-clocking abilities. He isn't a gamer, he just wants a simple board with power. According to Tom's reviews, the Intel board was near the bottom of the pack for the chipset, but my friend doesn't care if it is basic and reliable. I would agree from other machines I've built in the last year that sometimes having those other abilities will degrade quality of machine. I haven't been impressed with Asus or Gigabyte lately, so I am looking for more than a name. I don't care who the board is made by if it is reliable.

Your friends best choice for features, performance, reliability, and value is the Abit IS7. The 875 chipset offers no added features that he'll need.

The IS7 is perfectly stable at stock settings. The fact that it can be tweaked for additional performance is a bonus he might not use, but since this board cost around $100 and is stable stock, it's a great choice.

I think you should go with ABIT IS7. Many people in this forum has good experience with this mobo.

Personally I have an ABIT nForce2. It's not less stable than any Intel mobo I've seen (regardless overclocked/default setting.)
