Have you considered an nForce2 IGP (integrated graphics) board instead? SiS is known for weak graphics.

Oh yes indeedly! nforce2 is my best friend, but I felt obliged to at least look at the other chipset options out there, especially since this project's for a bud who's priorities are way diff than mine. But if I don't get some kind of lead on this elusive sis chipset soon I'll go with the nforce2 IGP + MCP for him with no regrets. I just can't imagine why I can't find a board utilizing it anywhere to even LOOK at... it's not like a brand-spankin-new chipset is it?

I doubt it, it was probably released around the same time as the 745, which was nearly 2 years ago I think.

OK, lets think cheap, have you considered an nForce 1 board?

Huh, well that's really weird then. Maybe I should just mail em and ask what models it's on...

As for nforce1, no I haven't looked at it, b/c I want 400FSB support. This guy's on a budget, hence the emphasis on integrated stuff, but I'm trying to give him a good foundation to build on; something he can upgrade or oc down the road.

I'll take back what I said about it probably being based on the 745, I just read the specs, it's definately a new chipset. Don't know where you'll find one, maybe in a Compaq or something!

K I was thinkin it was more recent than that- now I'm really curios to see what kind of boards come out with it. Although since they'd be new products, they'd prolly be outta the price range for this project, still keep an eye out eh?

Now somethin a lil of-topic: I've found several boards that fit our basic requirements, but none of em have both 400FSB *AND* 400Mhz DDR. I'm of the mind that 400FSB is more important than 400Mhz DDR, would you agree? (with that reasoning the Biostar M7NCG 400 is my pick- 400FSB, only 333DDR tho) Also, while I was thinkin of the FSB vs DDR thing, I got to thinkin about overclockin too; you can oc a sys's FSB and DDR freq, right? Like, could the Biostar's DDR conceivably be cranked up to 400? If it could it'd be perfect :D

Huzzah I found them! Please direct your attention to Exhibit A: http://www.sis.com/events/computex-2003/computex photo/sis/sis741_1.jpg

That main one looks Epox-ish to me, and if you look to the extreme right, it seems we can also expect boards with this chipset from ECS, *squints* Abit, and *squints harder* Aopen.

But WHEN?! I read these things have been in the make since Sept- WTH aren't they puttin em out for Xmas?! >.<
