I dont konw diddly about networking and was wondering what equipment i need to do it? and also, i cant use a router to do this as i was told that my isp would detect it and not allow it? any help would be great? or a link to a site that covers this topic?

What sort of internet connection do you have?

If 56k, use a crossover cable and use internet connection sharing.

If broadband, get a router and try it out if your ISP can detect it (dought it) return it and bitch to your ISP, ask them how the hell you can do what you want.

If you're on broadband, you'd just register the MAC address of your router with your ISP instead of your computer's.
